As I read through the Bible, particularly the Psalms, familiar chapters and passages feel almost like friends. There’s always something new that I hadn’t seen before, no matter how many times I’ve read it. Every time I read Psalm 107 though, I’m struck by the beautiful picture of the Lord’s goodness, providence, and faithfulness.
What we see there is how the Lord interacts with and cares for His people individually. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” or formulaic approach; He gives to each what they specifically need, based on their particular circumstances. The God who sees and hears reaches into the unique circumstances, and rescues, heals, saves, cares for His people.
The flip side of that is the response of His people. At the end of each of these sections relating how the Lord cares and provides, there’s a call to His people to respond: “Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!” Though the circumstances may vary, and the details change, a response of grateful consideration of God’s steadfast love is always right.
